Erik Seidel was born and raised in New York and started out as a backgammon player. While playing backgammon at the Mayfair club in New York City, he started playing poker. In 1988, he played in the World Series of Poker for the first time and finished 2nd to Johnny Chan in the main event. Since then, he has won 8 WSOP bracelets.
