New to poker and looking for a book to start your education? Try one of these easy to understand books and get into the game in a flash.

1. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Poker

Of all the most general, basic big books on poker, I recommend this easy to read and understand tome, written by the late, great poker writer Andrew Glazer, who was known as the "Poker Pundit." The format makes it easy to flip to just the section you want, and it covers it all from basic rules and etiquette, to strategy, reading "tells," and odds.

2. The Smarter Bet Guide to Poker

On the other hand, if you're looking for a short, little quick guide to poker you can easily slip in your bag or even pocket, this 128-page book by Basil Nestor is a really great choice. Nestor has a way of quickly communicating poker basics, and it's a fun, easy read, with factoids sprinkled throughout its pages and end-of-chapter summaries which reinforce his lessons.

3. Poker for Dummies

Written with the help of Lou Krieger, who wrote for years for Card Player Magazine, this dummies book is a good choice if you're starting up a home game, as it has a lot of poker variations, a section on "fun," and of course the poker basics written in easy-to-understand ways.

4. The Poker Player's Bible

Lou Krieger also penned this book, which promises to "Raise Your Game from Beginner to Winner" with its subtitle. It focuses on rules and strategy for Texas Hold'em, Omaha, and Seven-Card Stud, and is filled with nice color illustrations and is a good book that you can use both as a reference and as a course to follow in improving your poker skills.
