'60 Minutes' on Online Poker Cheating

Sunday November 30, 2008
Tonight, '60 Minutes' is airing a program on the Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet cheating scandals. It was originally scheduled to air on November 9th, the day the WSOP Main Event Final Table started play, but was delayed. Now I'm waiting to watch it as it's delayed by football, but am looking forward to seeing how they portray the online poker scene as a whole. Read more about the show here and let me know what you think of the show in the comments if you watch!

I’ve always known the cheaters are out there. I’ve written a lot of hate mail to sites, all responding with the same “we do everything we can to prevent online cheating”. The sad truth is, they don’t. If they did, their own owners and big time pro players wouldn’t be abusing their power so blatently. The scary thing is now that 60 minutes has done this story it will only prompt careful cheaters to be even more careful, making them even harder to catch.

My advise to all online poker players out there is to simply stay away from high stakes games. If a player seems to be “sucking out too much”, simply leave the table. If you can’t leave (ie, in a tourny), don’t get involved in any hands with them. Simply fold, keep an eye on them, write to the site reporting anything suspicious.
Also, don’t make the mistake of overwriting the sites and being a crybaby. Be a good customer, and the site will work harder to listen to any issues you have.
It’s time all players with integrity step up, watch other players, and report suspicious activity nicely in any poker site. The poker sites make plenty of money without having to cheat anybody, so it’s guaranteed they don’t want any cheaters. Truly help them find who’s doing it. If people are caught, and caught cheating you, you will get refunded!

I’ve stopped playing online completely. Anybody who tries to say there isn’t a ton of cheating going on – on all the sites – has their head in the sand.

ive been playin competitive online poker for 5 years..are there cheaters out there?..yes in everything in life there are cheaters..is online poker rigged..no! ive tracked stats over hundreds of thousands of hands ive played and the math is exactly like real life odds. You gotta know when to spot the cheaters if there is any and they will be caught, but this is no reason to get discouraged ive consistently made over 50k a year playin online poker. Its not rigged. its a mathematical game that involves patience and skill to win consistently.
