U.S. Congress Approves Bill to Ban Internet Gambling
Monday October 2, 2006
The biggest news in poker is the passing of the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act of 2006 on Friday, and already the repercussions are huge. Stocks of many Internet poker & gambling stocks plummeted today, and companies such as PartyGaming, who runs Party Poker, "said it would suspend all "real money" gaming activities in the U.S. if President George W. Bush signed into law the congressional bill aimed at preventing Internet gambling in the U.S." PokerStars and 888.com are planning on doing the same, it seems.
You can read the bill here (pdf). According to Lou Krieger, "the segment related to Internet gaming begins on page 212."
There is a lot I'd like to say about it, but since the poker bloggers have already written a lot worth reading on the bill, I'm going to start you off with some good links while I gather more info.

So we add online poker to the list of freedoms now banned in America “land of the free”.
God bless America, whether or not you are Christian.
Just sit down and shut up and pursue happiness within the legal guidelines.
hypocrisy at its finest
Maybe by near future Pro Gambling will make some way that they will be given a chance to legalize Internet Gambling but then it will have some restrictions. But not on the way that it will be eradicated.
I’m doing a school presentation on the dangers of Internet Gambling. I need a song to play in the background and the presentation has to be as long as the song.
