The World Series of Poker main event is down to just 2 tables right now, and one player in particular has captured my attention (besides the guy named Rhett Butler. Seriously, Rhett Butler?), New Yorker David Einhorn, who has vowed to give all his winnings from the tournament to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. He's guaranteed at least $659,730 as of this moment, but odds look pretty good for him to make it to at least 12th which will net him -- and therefore the foundation -- over a million dollars. Einhorn sits on the foundation’s board of directors, and had a grandfather who suffered with Parkinson’s. He planned on giving away his winnings from the beginning, saying, "Karma is good."
David Einhorn also sits on the board of the Robin Hood Leadership Council, an organization that targets poverty in New York City. It looks like Barry Greenstein, the man currently known as "The Robin Hood of Poker" for his charitable contributions, may have a competitor for the title. Here are some other tidbits I dug up about David Einhorn via my research assistant, Mr. Google:
David Einhorn is president of Greenlight Capital, Inc., which he co-founded in January 1996. Greenlight Capital is a value-oriented investment advisor whose goal is to achieve high absolute rates of return while minimizing the risk of capital loss. He serves on the board of directors of New Century Financial Corporation, Hillel, and Natan.
Einhorn went to college at Cornell, where he majored in Government and graduated summa cum laude with distinction in 1991.
