Ted Forrest: The Suicide King?
Thursday March 9, 2006
In Michael Craig's excellent poker book, "The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King," it's pretty clear that the Professor alluded to is Howard Lederer, and the banker is Andy Beal, the rich outsider who sat down with the best poker pros in Vegas and possibly the world, in the highest-stakes cash game ever. But the Suicide King of the title is less clear. I'm on the side of popular opinion that it's Ted Forrest, who's style of play is seen as reckless by some, and daring and brilliant by others. Also because he is well-known for taking lunatic bets like betting $7,000 that he could run a marathon in Las Vegas when it was over 100 degrees outside. After his recent success at the heads-up challenge, the tide may turn to just calling Forrest a plain old king of poker pros.

The Suicide King actually refers to the King of Hearts…given the way he holds his sword behind his head!
The suicide king refers to the card that came on the river in the final hand of the Beal Craig heads up match. It took place during the final interview with Beal in his office in Dallas. It’s in the Epilogue at the end of the book.
The hand goes as following:
