Poker Etiquette

Wednesday October 19, 2005
Every time I teach a poker class, after teaching the basics of what beats what, I spend some time on poker table manners or etiquette, which is important to learn and follow no matter whether your playing in a nickle-dime-quarter home game or in a card room in Vegas. By following these basic rules of behavior, you'll be a much more popular poker player and be welcomed back at any game.

I think the order in which you teach Poker basics — first, what beats what; second, etiquette — is right on. So many people make a Poker experience less fun with bad manners and often, I think, don’t even know they’re doing it. Bad etiquette is the only way people have ever been uninvited from a local home game I play in from time to time.

Linda Johnson writes a great article in Cardplayer Magazine about Poker Etiquette. Everybody should read this and live by this.
