King of the World Series of Poker Hill
I just was talking with a friend about who I thought was the most successful player at the World Series of Poker, ever. I thought about what makes a player "the best" -- is it who's won the most tournaments? Made the most final tables? Won the most money? I couldn't answer, but here were some of the contenders, so you can decide for yourself:
Most World Series of Poker Bracelets: Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan are tied with 10 apiece. Phil Hellmuth has 9.
Most Money Won at the WSOP: The newest winner, Joseph Hachem, leads the pack, but is followed by Greg Raymer, Steve Dannemann, Johnny Chan, T.J. Cloutier, David Williams, Dan Harrington, and Phil Hellmuth.
Most World Series of Poker Cashes: Men "the Master Nyguen" leads with 49, but T.J. Cloutier, Phil Hellmuth, and Berry Johnston are close behind, each making the money 48 times. Chris Ferguson is next in line with 42.I'm also fond of Annie Duke, who leads the ladies in final table appearances and money won, and Dan Harrington, who as of 2004 (I haven't done the math with the new 2005 numbers quite yet) had the most final table appearances of all. You can see how it would be hard to pick just one.
