Day 2 of the World Series of Poker Begins
Sunday July 10, 2005
After 3 days of "first" days, 1864 people will start on Day 2 of the WSOP. The final numbers for the tournament:
Final Number of Entries: 5619
Final Prize Pool: $52.8 Million (Harrah's takes some off the top for running the tournament)
1st Prize: $7,500,000
Everyone at the final table will win at least $1 Million.
Wow.
Why are there 5619 entries as opposed to the originally reported 5661? Via Iggy, I found the answer. The tournament director answered on the poker forum, RPG:
We had 1 death between registration and play, 5 documented medical emergencies that were granted a refund, and 32 players over the first 3 days of play that did not show up to play their stacks. we also had 4 players assigned 2 different starting days. Of those players who did not show up to play, I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THEY DID NOT SHOW. Underage qualifiers were a majority is my assumption.
With over 20% of the field qualifying from the online site PokerStars.com alone, that underage qualifiers theory makes sense to me.
Meanwhile, day 2 begins, with Phil Ivey and Mike "the Mouth" Matusow">Howard Lederer still in it after Day 1(c). For chip counts for all remaining players, check out cardplayer.com, which also has video highlights from the first three days and other events galore.
