5,661 Began...

Friday July 8, 2005
The final count for entries to the 2005 $10,000 buy-in no-limit Texas Hold'em Event at the World Series of Poker was 5,661. According to the live blogging wonder, Pauly, the cards got in the air at 11:10. At 11:21, the first player busted out, before some pros even sat down. Ouch. That's about $1,000/minute for that poker player's time in the WSOP.

Today the second first day gets underway -- that makes sense, right? No, because of the huge number of players, there's three "first" days, so by "day two" which is really the fourth day of play, they'll "only" be about 2,000 players left.

So, Who Busted Out on Day 1(a)?
  • Wil Wheaton
  • The superb Jen Harman
  • Ladies WSOP Event Winner Jen Tilly
  • The Robin Hood of Poker (who has the most musical Web site of all poker time), Barry Greenstein
  • 10-time WSOP Bracelet Winner Johnny Chan
  • And the list also include Isabelle Mercier, Dave "Devilfish" Uliot, Mike Caro, Josh Arieh, Ted Forrest, and Mike Sexton

Now, onto Day 1(b). I don't know if a pro is going to make it all the way through to win, still. What do you think?
